As the old adage goes, “every cloud has a silver lining”…According to recent Professional Services Management Journal (PSMJ) research, there are pockets of encouraging news that don’t make headlines.  The 2009 outlook suggests good news for single-family housing activity in the Southeast.  Non-residential construction like hotels, manufacturing and institutional facilities is another bright spot.  Long term, the Sun Belt will offer the greatest demand in new and replacement construction due to positive migration in population growth.  With this in mind, be courageous and don’t be afraid to take risks.  It’s time for “See”zing the Future!

Breakers Pointe - Curb Appeal

The Homeowner’s Association of Breakers Pointe, a community of 35 homes in Breakers West called upon Hirsch Architects, Inc. to design a color makeover for the community. The president of the homeowners association had worked with architects in the past. He knew that the process of selecting new exterior colors and designing the process required a professional perspective. Preparing the colors schemes, working with major paint manufacturers and preparing specification and bidding instructions resulted in just the right package of information for this high quality residential community.

Safety First - Importance of Code Compliance

A world-wide printing company located in Broward County is learning about the building code process the hard way. When the Fire Marshal and Building Official made an unannounced visit, they immediately recognized the extent of improvements to the facility that were built without the proper plans and permit. Hirsch Architects, Inc's. task was to evaluate the extent of the non-compliance and prepare a strategy

to bring the facility up to code with the least disruption to the daily operations. The lesson to be learned is to never make any improvements to residential or commercial property without the proper plans and permits. The important thing to remember is that the architect applies the building code to protect the health and safety of the people using the facility.
